What happens after I submit my application?

Shortly after submitting your online application, you will receive a confirmation email, and the selection committee will review your application to make sure that you are eligible to apply for the GIRLBOSS™ Foundation grant. Each application is thoroughly reviewed by the selection committee team led by Sophia Amoruso.

How are applications judged?

A selection committee reviews all applications submitted within the application period and judges each project based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates creativity and innovation in the specific field (30%)

  • Demonstrates business acumen and forward planning (30%)

  • Demonstrates financial need (30%)

  • Proposed timing, work plan, and budget are clear, detailed and achievable within the next 12 months (10%)

What demonstrates financial need?

We aren’t looking to comb through your last tax return! Just tell us in a well articulated statement why you require the funds and how you propose to deploy them.

When are the winners announced?

Each quarter, the selection committee works quickly to review the applications and make a decision within three weeks of the end of the submission window. However, delays can occur during quarters where an excessive number of applications are received.

How will I find out if I’ve won?

GIRLBOSS™ Foundation grant recipients will be contacted by email. The winner will then be publicly announced through our social media channels and the GIRLBOSS News section of our website. We will not accept calls or emails about the Foundation. For official rules, please reference the Application Terms and Conditions.

How much money is awarded?

Each grant beneficiary will receive project funding of $15,000 to be used towards their project within a 12 month period.

How many grants are awarded each year?

Currently, the GIRLBOSS™ Foundation awards two grants per year to female entrepreneurs pursuing creative endeavors.

Who’s on the judging committee?

Our quarterly selection committee is formed from a group of Nasty Gal staff representing varying departments such as design, finance, marketing, and tech and led by Sophia Amoruso.

I wasn’t selected last quarter… Can I apply again?

Absolutely, applicants are welcome to apply once per quarter. Any applicants who submit multiple applications in the quarter may be disqualified.

I previously won a Girlboss Foundation grant. Can I apply again?

Unfortunately not - we must make way for future Girlbosses.

Does the Girlboss Foundation accept volunteers?

We’d be happy to consider you! Please send us your resume at info@girlboss.com and tell us a bit about yourself!
